The Poetry Porch: Poets

In Memoriam: Ted Richer (1931 - 2022)

I was saddened to hear that Ted Richer passed away Saturday morning, June 25th. Over the years, I always enjoyed hearing him describe how many of his fantastical narratives were drawn from his experiences growing up in Mason City, Iowa. We often crossed paths at poetry readings on the South Shore or walking on Minot Beach, where he cut a solitary figure who never seemed to age. The last time I saw him, he was explaining at length the ancestral lines that connected him with a distant cousin, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. He is survived by his daughter Araby Thornewill.

His work appeared regularly on The Poetry Porch. See his bio page for links to his poems, figurations, poem plays, and prose.
