December Song

When I am lonely

you send your
huge yellow moon
to rise behind the purple mountain

When I am adrift, disheartened,
floundering in the dark night

you send your swift eagle
to carry me high above the valleys

When my heart falls still in the darkness

you fill the heavens
with starlight
to guide me home

When my spirit feels numb and exhausted

you embrace me
with all the beauty of the winter desert
with a gentle joy and inspiration
to keep me company through many a still hour.
