Poetry Porch: Poetry

J. M. W. Turner
by Susanne Dubroff

Turner had the larger perspective.

On the pier the bored sea captain,
     his desperate young wife,

bandaged survivors rowing towards them,

or a few dreamy women by a brook,
     while in the background
neglected horizons,

             the old Roman bridge.
