Poetry Porch: Poetry

A PHOTOGRAPH BY KATE
by Robert K. Johnson

(for my daughter)

I quickly recognize
it’s a delicate depiction
of an interior,

a dining room whose air
is shadow-dim—more dark

than light; with a hung painting
hard to perceive inside
its amber wooden frame;

and with a heavy mirror
reflecting perhaps one half

of a window that shows a glimpse
of distant golden flowers.
                       Only later

did I learn the photograph
was a self-portrait.
