A WAY TO HAPPINESS
by Robert K. Johnson

Despite the victories
the maple leaves achieved
over summer’s heat, they, too,

suffer a final defeat,
are brought down through the air
by autumn’s chill.
                             Yet, now,

at peace with the quiet earth,
these leaves are beautiful,
dressed in red and yellow

and as delicately curled
as a ballerina’s body
dancing in a pas de deux.
