MEDICINE MAN
by Ted Richer

1.

“I have an illness,” she said.

. . .

“What is it?” I said.

. . .

“An illness of the body,” she said.

. . .

“What is it?” I said.

. . .

“My body needs you,” she said.

. . .

“I have my cure for that—” I said.

2.

“I have a sickness,” she said.

. . .

“What is it?” I said.

. . .

“A sickness of the mind,” she said.

. . .

“What is it?” I said.

. . .

“My mind loves you,” she said.

. . .

“I have no cure for that—” I said.

3.

“Cure what you can.”
