Andelea
by Elizabeth Reeke
Oh Andelea,
You with the deep warm fur,
You with the cool nose,
You who walk the heavens,
You who come from the ancient mountain they call Hiunchuli,
Its soaring peak shrouded in the mists of the gods;
You who drink deeply of the sweet nectar of the jasmine
And feast on ripe, red berries from alpine meadows;
Come walk with me;
You with the coal-black eyes.
Oh Andelea,
You who walk the endless nighttime skies,
You who tread softly on the strings of my lyre,
Sing to me of the beauty that colors your worlds;
Your songs fill my heart with the brightness of the new moon!
Come walk with me;
You with the coal-black eyes.
Oh Andelea,
You with the cool nose,
You who walk the kingdoms of life and death,
You who carry so many across the frozen snowfields
Burrowed safely in the warmth of your massive shoulders;
You are minstrel to my spirit!
You guide my path with kindness that has no bounds;
Come walk with me;
You with the deep, warm fur,
You with the coal-black eyes.
