Storm Brendan
By D. S. Maolalaí

wind’s up. it’s not bad,
but people are saying
it’s terrible. someone told me
they saw a guy outside
come close to losing
his shopping.
someone said
that he’ll have to get
some new shoes.
it’s a storm, sure,
but still ireland; this is as bad
as storms get. like sleeping after sex
and taking the uncomfortable pillow.
like when it’s busy
and you have to eat lunch
at your desk. we stand
under shelters
and go in
when we’ve finished our cigarettes.
make coffee
and trade links to traffic
reports.
