Just Like a Penguin
by Joyce Wilson

—to the tune of “Lonesome Valley”
(audio)

Recitative:
One day the snow began to fall,
Sidewalks and streets turned to ice,
And then we heard the voice of Mayor Menino
Imparting this advice:

Refrain:
You’ve got to walk just like a penguin,
You’ve got to take those tiny steps,
Don’t let your feet slide out before you,
You’ve got to take those tiny steps.

Recitative:
We worry for our precious children,
Who have no reason to hope,
Until we watch the Warner Brothers movie
And see a way to cope:

Refrain:
You’ve got to walk just like a penguin,
You’ve got to take those tiny steps,
Don’t let your feet slide out before you,
You’ve got to take those tiny steps.

Recitative:
News stories fill us with despair;
Too often love turns to hate.
Remembering the penguins on their ice berg,
We say it’s not too late:

Refrain:
You’ve got to walk just like a penguin,
You’ve got to take those tiny steps,
Don’t let your feet slide out before you,
You’ve got to take those tiny steps.
