Lest weekend mah wee grandson cam tae bide
wi’ a backpack foo ay books an’ they waur
aw abit bridges.
Davie, Ah said, Ah hae a hooseful ay books.
Aye Granddad but they’re noo abit bridges
an’ Ah need tae study them.
Is it a skale project laddie? Nae Ah jist need tae
fin’ somethin’. Whit happened tae Harry Potter
Ah thooght.
At bedtime we reid abit th’ Novy Most, he liked
‘at wi’ its UFO restaurant. We looked at picters
ay Tower Brig, George Washington brig,
beam bridges, cantilever bridges, arch bridges,
truss bridges, and cable-stayed bridges. Whit
sort ay brig ur ye lookin’ fur laddie?
Ooch Grandad, we’ve bin readin’ Winnie th’ Pooh
at skale an’ Charlie an’ me want ta fin’ th’ best brig
fur playin’ pooh sticks.
